Is It Cliff-Time?

Step back in time with me.

When was the last time you said, “I can’t do that.” or “I don’t know how to do that.” And you wanted so badly to give up and “squirm” away because, in your mind, you weren’t “the person cut-out for the job?”

Well, rest assured, you are definitely not alone, even though so often, in the toughest times, you might feel like it.

Use your imagination and taste life as Jeremiah tried to swallow what the Lord God was saying to him. (This is Jer. 1:5-8)

The Lord said to him, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

“Ah, Sovereign Lord,” Jeremiah replied, “I do not know how to speak. I am only a child.”

The Lord said, “Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you.” declares the Lord

You might be stepping into an unknown area right now, maybe feeling like you’re stepping off a cliff. But God is with you.

He’s leading you; He’s guiding you. He won’t let you down.

Trust Him.

Another Turn

‘Made any turns lately? In life? In work? In what you believe?

‘Just wondering, because that came to mind as I read a newspaper article about Country music legend, Ricky Skaggs. Maybe you read it too…it was entitled, “Skaggs Takes Another Turn On His Musical Journey.”

Here’s part of the write-up: Co-producer Gordon Kennedy remembers looking out of the sound booth window expecting to see Skaggs at the microphone.

“And Ricky is on his knees on the ground with his head buried in the chair next to him, just crying.” Kennedy said.

Skaggs had already run through “Instead” once with no problems. But as he prepared for a second take, the full impact of the song’s message rendered him helpless.

How about you? What has “rendered you helpless” as you’ve made a certain turn in a certain direction?

The prophet Isaiah said, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’ “

God’s grace be with you.

Stand Firm

I know I’ve mentioned this verse to you before And, I must say, I must pass along this portion once again! It’s in the 14th chapter of Exodus….

You know how life is. Things can set us off, “rattle our chains,” stress us out, make us nervous and unsure. The list goes on and on!

In the midst of our storms, in the midst of our battles, in the midst of our confusions and misunderstandings, God leans in to us and whispers, Do not be afraid.

And yet, He’s not finished; He has more He wants us to hear! Read on… Then He says to us, meeting us exactly where we are, Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord has for you today (Exodus 14:13; NIV).

Now, go back. Read each word slowly and listen to it carefully as you apply it to your life and what you’re dealing with today.

Trust God; He will take care of you.

His Wings

Since today is August 16th as I’m writing this week’s blog, I opened my Bible to Psalm 16 and began reading:

Keep me safe, O God, for in You I take refuge.

And that’s as far as I got. My heart stopped there. My insides were overwhelemed at the safety and care the Lord Jesus has for us, His children…He leans down to us and covers us with His mighty pinions and overshadows and protects us like a mother hen does to her little ones. “He will cover you with His feathers; and under His wings you will take refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart” (Ps 91:4).

Be not afraid; God has you covered!

No Fishing Allowed!

Last night as I was reading Corrie ten Boom’s book, Plenty for Everyone, this stood out to me: “…for God Himself has cast all my sins in the very deeps of the sea, forgiven and forgotten (see Micah 7:19).”

Satan plays with our minds and brings up memories or reminders from the past to pull us down and heap guilt onto us. Yet God comes to our rescue and says, “This is mine! I have hurled all their iniquitites into the depths of the sea!”

Hmmm…this reminds me of Helen Baylor’s song, “Sea of Forgetfulness.”

God is going before you, and He is with you every step of the way.

Oh yeah…and one more thing! In this “sea of forgetfulness” where God throws our sins, there is also a sign posted that reads, “No Fishing Allowed!” (CTBoom)

Remember that!

It’s Time to Bike…with God

So how many of you out there are serious cyclists? Been on some pretty long rides, have you?

Yeah…I guess, in a way, life can be like some of those bike rides. Some are long, others are short; some require commitment and courage, while others simply involve pleasure and sight-seeing. Every ride is different; yet each person has his own story to tell.

Have a go - get on your bike, start pedaling, and read this story……

Bike Ride with God

When I first met Christ
It seemed as though life was rather like a bike ride,
But it was a tandem bike,
And I noticed that Christ
Was in the back helping me pedal.

I don’t know just when it was that
He suggested we change places,
But life has not been the same since.

When I had control, I knew the way,
It was rather boring, but predictable…
It was the shortest distance between two points.

But when He took the lead,
He knew delightful long cuts,
Up mountains, and through rocky places,
At breakneck speeds,
It was all I could do to hang on!
Even though it looked like madness,
He said, “Pedal.”
I worried and was anxious and asked,
“Where are you taking me?”
He laughed and didn’t answer,
And I started to learn to trust.

I forgot my boring life
And entered into the adventure.
And when I’d say, “I’m scared,”
He’d lean back and touch my hand.

He took me to people with gifts that I needed.
Gifts of healing, acceptance, and joy.
He said, “Give the gifts away;
They’re extra baggage, too much

weight.”
So I did, I gave them to the people we met,
And I found that in giving I received,
And still our burden was light.

I did not trust Him, at first, In control of my life.
I thought He’d wreck it;
But He knows bike secrets,
Knows how to make it bend to take sharp corners,
Knows how to jump to clear high rocks,
Knows how to fly to shorten scary passages.

And I am learning to shut up
and pedal in the strangest places,
And I’m beginning to enjoy the view
And the cool breeze on my face
With my delightful constant companion, Jesus Christ.

And when I’m sure I just can’t do anymore,
He just smiles and says…
“Pedal.”

How’s Your Heart?

Come dive into God’s Word with me!

Circumcision is on my mind. (I know, a deep subject not often talked about or studied today!)

Circumcision of the heart - that has kept going through my mind this morning. It made me wanna dive into God’s Word and find out what He was saying to me!

Immediately, I opened to the second chapter of Romans: “A man is not a Jew if he is only one outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise is not from men, but from God. What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision? Much in every way! First of all… (Romans 2:28,29 and 3:1,2; NIV).

As you search and roam the Scripture, remember this: circumcision signified Israel’s covenent relationship with God.

I know there’s a lot for us to think about here, but here’s what keeps sticking with me: the outward and physical vs. the heart
